I often write and produce music for film or advertising that scopes a wide variety of different genres, its not uncommon to be commissioned to write a smokey jazz track one minute and a hard hitting electro track the next. I love the diversity, it forces me to broaden my musical horizons and expand with each project.

With this in mind I thought it would be an interesting undertaking to write a short piece that spanned an array of different genres all in one. A test of both composition and production.

I set about planning a rough map of where I wanted it to go and it soon became apparent that it would be more challenging than I first thought. Different genres tend to have wildly opposing fundamental traits and this made getting the smooth transitions I wanted a little tricky.

After a bit of banging my head against the mixing desk (one of my secret techniques) I wrestled my map in to place and began production. The formidable Mr Tom Barnes leant his trigger finger to create this opulent accompaniment for the eyes and a massive thanks must go to all the wonderful performers that took part. Needless to say, I am very pleased with the results. It should give any maestros hanging out there ‘on-the-line’ an idea of the broad results we can achieve here at Empire.
Enjoy!
